BIO

Ava Gottschall comes to Coronado all the way from Massachusetts where she grew up playing soccer, until she fell in love with lacrosse, playing every chance she could get! She went on to play at DII Saint Michael's College before transferring to DIII Mount Holyoke College, where she was a three year midfield starter, senior captain, and one of the all-time top point producers for MHC.

She then moved on to start her corporate career supporting a group of C-suite executives and service academy alumni; among others, a former Army Ranger and a former F15 Pilot/Rhodes Scholar. The team-first mentality and leadership skills she had developed playing lacrosse helped her to adapt and thrive in a military-inspired corporate culture.

Somehow, after almost 8 years away from the field and heavily focused on excelling in a demanding career, Ava has fallen back in love with the sport of lacrosse from the other side of the coin: coaching! She brings to CLC her ability to apply the leadership and organizational lessons she has learned in her career to the world of girls lacrosse.

She passionately believes in the ability of girls/womens sports to help develop numerous life skills in youth, as well as instill the confidence and resilience to approach all of life's challenges. She is dedicated to attracting and retaining more girls in sport and helping female athletes achieve their goals.

Her current focus at CLC is on:

  • Incorporating coaching best practices by age/level from our national governing body (US Lacrosse)

  • Developing a distinctive CLC coaching culture

  • Ensuring club-wide consistency with regards to skill-specific coaching

  • Coach talent acquisition and retention

  • Coach training and resource development

  • Developing tools to enhance coach-parent communication
